Literature: At the Heart of Our Lives.

Youth Literature Festival Flyer

Thank you to all who made the 2014 Youth Literature Festival a huge success. Big thanks to our donors and patrons who made it possible to share the gift of literature with more than 14,450 students across 6 counties in more than 70 schools. Thank you to our authors who went beyond the call of duty to work with students even more than they signed up to do and excited so many young people about reading and writing. Thank you to our special Saturday performers, Sinfonia da Camera, Maggie Brown, the Puppetry Guild, Kate Kuper and Rocky Maffit, the Lincoln's Challenge chorus, The Balkan Music Ensemble, the Illinois Woodwind Quintet, and teh Conservatory of Central Illinois musicians for their performances and to a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency making their appearances possible. Thank you to all of the librarians, classroom teachers, art teachers and administrators who prepared their students and invited authors into their schools to share their books. Thank you to the College of Education, the Graduate School of Library and Information Sciences and the University Library for supporting this project. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped with driving cars and providing assistance at Community Day to make everything work better. There are so many who make this happen and it is great to see so much support for literacy and our young people.

Be sure to save the date for the 2016 Youth Literature Festival. It will take place October 20-22, 2016 with the Community Day Celebration again on the 22nd. Plan to help out in any way you can - volunteer, provide financial support, or just read books to children around you to promote their literacy. See you in 2016!
